Silver Moon Vineyard

The Silver Moon Winery Vineyard:

Discover Our Corner of Illinois Wine Country

Silver Moon Winery is a 55-acre estate adjacent to Lake Carroll in Lanark, Illinois. Purchased by Ron and Kathi Enzenbacher in 2004, it represents what can be achieved with inspiration and the work of one’s hands.

The Enzenbachers began cultivating their 25-acre vineyard soon after acquiring it in 2004. With a little help from family and friends, they planted 6,000 vines by hand on thousands of hand-placed posts that serve as part of the canopy system.

The estate also includes 500 fruit trees and bushes on 10 acres, a 1-acre pumpkin patch and a 12-acre corn maze. When viewed from above, the 2009 corn maze formed a whimsical pattern of a wine bottle pouring into a wine glass.

Looking to Your Future Enjoyment

Another 1,500 vines completed planting in the vineyard in spring 2008, when passers-by saw Ron and Kathi enjoying their work outdoors. Rain or shine, they have remained true to their dream of a warming and welcoming destination for wine in northwestern Illinois.

They devoted the rest of 2008 through October 2009 to the winery building, and the completion of its temporary tasting room with a fireplace and comfortable outdoor porch area.

Silver Moon will also produce as many varietals as possible from its own estate-grown grapes. Several of its fruit wines will be made from the property’s orchard as well. For grapes not suited for cultivation in Illinois soil, the best available grapes and juices will be imported from Illinois and other states to begin the delicate winemaking process at Silver Moon Winery.

Guests will equally enjoy a charming and intimate location. Remote yet within reach of Dubuque, the Quad Cities and Chicago, encircled by rolling hills and farmland, the estate immerses visitors in peaceful sounds of silence beneath a glowing moon in a twinkling sky.

The Enzenbachers also intend to give guests even more special reasons to visit. Beyond handcrafted estate wines, a selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars, they plan to offer fresh, tasty and healthful seasonal foods from the area; special-event wine dinners and wine/appetizer pairings; homemade items from local cooks and artisans; recipe handouts; live music; and a farmers' market.

Future plans include outdoor fire pits, a picnic area, calming ponds and waterfalls, and a deck with picturesque vistas. Further discussions are underway for a deli; a coffee bar; a wedding, reception and gathering area; and a candle-lit dining room serving American tapas–style dishes.
